Softball Recap: Stone Ridge Christian Takes a Loss

Stone Ridge Christian extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 8-6 in the process. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mariposa County Grizzlies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-2 last Friday.

Emma Quisenberry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Stone Ridge Christian saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anneka Vander Woude, who went 2-for-3 with one triple. That triple marked the first that Vander Woude has hit this season.

As for Mariposa County, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 19-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.

On Mariposa County's side, Hailey Hatcher made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Hatcher was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kallie Wass, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Stone Ridge Christian has already played their next game, a 9-1 victory against Gustine on the 30th. As for Mariposa County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 9-3 loss against Le Grand on the 30th.
