Esperanza took  a  three-set  loss the last time they faced off against Villa Park, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Aztecs had just enough and edged out the Spartans  3-2 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest  win the Aztecs have posted  since September 28, 2024.
 Esperanza was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (101-99), but they still managed to win. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 12-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23,  15-6.
Esperanza is  on a roll lately: they've  won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-11-1 record  this season. As for Villa Park,  with the  defeat, they broke their three-match winning streak and moved their record to 7-10-3.
