Basketball Recap: Zaya Lewis Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Loomis

St. Paul's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They snuck past the Loomis Wolves with a 50-46 win. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Wolves are ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

St. Paul's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zaya Lewis, who posted eight points along with ten rebounds and six steals. Lewis is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Charlee Wegner was another key player, putting up 11 points along with seven boards and three steals.

St. Paul's record is now 5-3. As for Loomis, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the St. Paul Wildcats challenge the Boone Central Cardinals at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Loomis, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Elm Creek at 6:00 p.m. on January 10, 2025.
