Baseball Recap: Leadership Public Schools Richmond's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Leadership Public Schools Richmond barely beat Aspire Richmond Ca. College Preparatory Academy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pumas blew past the Grizzlies 10-3 on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Pumas as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Rene Lopez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Leadership Public Schools Richmond is 4-2 when Lopez posts eight or more strikeouts, but 1-4 otherwise. Lopez was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landon Grisby, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Leadership Public Schools Richmond: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Brian Martinez, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Leadership Public Schools Richmond kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
