Softball Recap: Wednesday's Loss Ends Downingtown East's Winning Streak

Downingtown East dropped their record down to 13-7 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Coatesville Red Raiders. Cougars fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Red Raiders since on Wednesday.

Lilly Waterer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Baroni, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

As for Coatesville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-5. The game was the first time they have beaten Downingtown East on their field since May 2, 2022.

On Coatesville's side, Gracelynn Landis made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Landis was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Coatesville let Taylor Sherry and Danielle Sweigart run wild. Sherry went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Sweigart went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jillian Wimmer, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Downingtown East does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Coatesville, they will host Downingtown West at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Red Raiders 3.6, the Whippets 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
