Basketball Recap: Speedway Extends Winning Streak to Two

Speedway won the last time they faced Crawfordsville, and Madelynn Matelic did her part to make sure it happened again. The Speedway Sparkplugs blew past the Crawfordsville Athenians 62-38 on Saturday thanks in part to Matelic, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last four games she's played.

Mylie Walton was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to ten boards and three steals. Those ten rebounds gave her a new career-high.

Crawfordsville's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Olivia Hedrick, who posted seven points and nine boards. Laura Viveros also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Speedway and bumps their season record up to 5-9. As for Crawfordsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-14.

Speedway didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 41-37 loss against Beech Grove on the 14th. Crawfordsville has also already played their next contest (against Western Boone), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
