Baseball Game Preview: Chelmsford Lions vs. Dracut Middies

The Chelmsford Lions are taking a road trip to face off against the Dracut Middies at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Dracut took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Chelmsford, who comes in off a win.

Chelmsford took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Haverhill, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Lions sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Hillies on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.

Jason Bilo looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Keegan Briere and Jack Keyo did most of the damage at the plate: Briere went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI, while Keyo went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Matthew Hall, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Dracut didn't have quite enough to beat Central Catholic on Thursday and fell 4-3. The Middies have struggled against the Raiders recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Chelmsford's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Dracut, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Chelmsford took their victory against Dracut when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-3 score. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Middies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
