Baseball Game Preview: Marion Local Flyers vs. Coldwater Cavaliers

Marion Local is 0-5 against Coldwater since April of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Flyers will welcome the Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. Marion Local is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

Marion Local is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest defeat since April 6, 2024 on Tuesday. They came up short against St. Henry, falling 14-7.

Ethan Heitkamp and Griffin Bruns stepped up to the plate in a big way. Heitkamp went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs, while Bruns went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Bruns has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Isaac Moeller was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Coldwater came tearing into Tuesday's contest with 13 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Panthers a 9-0 shutout. Considering the Cavaliers have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Coldwater pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Marion Local, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 8-3.

Marion Local suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Coldwater in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Flyers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
