McKenzie Whitehouse and Lindsay Green made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Whitehouse pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Green tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Whitehouse has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At bat, Whitehouse scored a run while going 1-for-4, while Green went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Those four hits gave Green a new career-high.
In other batting news, Emerson Aslan was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Hailey Baker also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Harmony hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Melbourne Central Catholic and Bayside had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Hustlers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Bears an 11-0 shutout on Thursday. The Hustlers have beaten the Bears the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bears has come to flipping the script.
Madelynn Prayto was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Prayto was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Rylie Lovett, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Dakota Cooper, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Melbourne Central Catholic's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Harmony, their record now sits at 8-6.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Harmony hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Melbourne Central Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .358. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Harmony skirted past Melbourne Central Catholic 10-9 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Longhorns since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
