Softball Recap: Appalachian Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Southeastern, Appalachian was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the Victory Christian Lions by a score of 10-6. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-5 last Friday.

Tori Atkinson tossed a big game, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Graci McGuire, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Sophie Peek also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Appalachian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Appalachian now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Victory Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Appalachian will take on Ragland at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Ragland has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.44 runs per game on average), something Appalachian will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Victory Christian, they will face off against Holy Family Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
