Softball Recap: Monroe Triumphs

Monroe took an eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Edgewood, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hornets narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Cougars 3-1.

Aubri Vandeventer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Hannah Tribbey was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Jadyn Harp also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Monroe's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 5-8. As for Edgewood, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Cougars beat Monroe by a score of 2-0 on Thursday.
