Baseball Game Preview: Althoff Catholic Crusaders vs. Staunton Bulldogs

The Althoff Catholic Crusaders will challenge the Staunton Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Althoff Catholic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Althoff Catholic took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over Valmeyer.

Sam Roche looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Tyler Birdsong, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Evan Hoffman, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, Staunton unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central.

Staunton's loss dropped their record down to 15-13-1. As for Althoff Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 16-14.
