Baseball Game Preview: Calhoun Warriors vs. Gillespie Miners

Calhoun hasn't had much luck against Gillespie recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Warriors will challenge the Miners at 4:30 p.m. Calhoun is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

On Thursday, Calhoun needed a bit of extra time to put away Greenfield/Northwestern. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Tigers, sneaking past 9-7. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Calhoun got a massive performance out of Drew Wallendorf, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and two doubles. Those three runs gave Wallendorf a new career-high. Jack Zipprich was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Meanwhile, Gillespie suffered their biggest loss since April 18th on Thursday. They came up short against Pawnee, falling 13-1.

Jack Kaylor made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.

Calhoun pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Gillespie, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-9.

Calhoun couldn't quite finish off Gillespie when the teams last played back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
