League recap: Kelly's hitting boosts O'Connor

I Section III league recap: 5/7/12

Noah Kelly was the hottest hitter in the league this week, racking up a .444 average, two home runs and six RBIs. His O'Connor team went 2-0.

In the ongoing battle for first place, Chaparral beat O'Connor this week, 3-2 on May 5, 2012. Chaparral is now in first place at 15-3 in the league and 26-7 overall.

Pinnacle sprayed a league-best 273 hits this week, but still trails Boulder Creek, which holds the season lead in base knocks with 355. Bryce Colceri has a team-high 36 hits on the season for seventh-place the Pioneers, which went -4--1 this week.

Pinnacle's dominant pitching staff finished its week with a league-high 103 strikeouts, but still trails the Jaguar for the season lead (206 Ks). Eric Melbostad, who has struck out 56 batters over 52 innings, leads the Pioneers.



Mountain Ridge's Austin Paschke finished his week with eight hits, tops in the league. On the season, he's hitting .383 and ranks twenty-fifth in the league with 31 hits.

Nick Jewett went 4-4 as Brophy College Prep defeated Desert Vista 13-7 on May 1, 2012. He rounded out his day with one runs batted in and zero runs scored.
