Basketball Recap: Caliche Has No Trouble Against Flagler

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Otis, Caliche was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 59-34 margin over the Flagler Panthers. That looming 59-34 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Buffaloes yet this season.

Caliche found their leader in sophomore Avery Bell, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bell has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tayten Gerk, who posted 11 points.

Caliche smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups.

Flagler's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Braden Hill, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds, and Trevor Moore, who earned seven points and six boards. That was a full 47.1% of Flagler's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's scored more than a third of the team's points. Mathew Cross also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

With the victory, Caliche broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-6. As for Flagler, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Caliche has already played their next game, a 69-51 loss against Peetz on the 28th. As for Flagler, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-40 defeat against Idalia on the 28th.
