Basketball Recap: Mesquite's Run of 12 Straight Wins Now Over

After flying high against Clayton Valley Charter last Thursday, Mesquite came back down to earth. The Mesquite Wildcats fell 43-32 to the Skyridge Falcons on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Wildcats came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked first in Arizona, while the Falcons are ranked 25th in Utah).

Despite the loss, Mesquite still got an impressive performance from Lucy Fisher, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 11 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Rebekah Udall, who posted three points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Even though they lost, Mesquite smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Ellah Oeser continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Skyridge, almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Oeser has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Bella Sika, who had 11 points.

With the defeat, Mesquite broke their 12-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-1. As for Skyridge, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-4.

Mesquite wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 46-32 victory against West Linn on the 21st. As for Skyridge, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 61-32 loss against Highlands Ranch on the 21st.
