Basketball Game Preview: Mount Vernon Bulldogs vs. Lynden Lions

The Mount Vernon Bulldogs will face off against the Lynden Lions at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Mount Vernon is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Friday with ease, bagging a 78-11 victory over Marysville-Pilchuck. With that win, the Bulldogs brought their scoring average up to 52 points per game.

Mount Vernon got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Addison Shand out in front who went 7 of 11 en route to 17 points and seven steals. Shand has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kim Williams, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 15 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Mount Vernon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Lynden put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They ended the year with a bang, routing White River 72-51. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while the Hornets are ranked 37th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mount Vernon's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Lynden, their victory bumped their record up to 10-0.

Mount Vernon took a serious blow against Lynden in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 73-23. Can Mount Vernon avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
