Recap: Los Alamos Hilltoppers vs. Penasco Panthers
The Los Alamos Hilltoppers won the last time they faced the Penasco Panthers, and things went their way on Saturday too. Los Alamos enjoyed a cozy 60-44 win over Penasco. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Los Alamos.
Los Alamos was led to victory by Gerrianna Romero and GG Romero. Romero scored 15 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Romero scored 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Romero hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Trujillo, who scored eight points.
Penasco's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Analise MacAuley, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Rochelle Lopez who scored 17 points. Lopez has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Atencio, who scored five points.
Los Alamos has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. As for Penasco, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 8-7.
Los Alamos will square off against Rio Rancho at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rio Rancho presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Los Alamos in New Mexico (Rio Rancho is ranked tenth, while Los Alamos is ranked 43rd). As for Penasco, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Pecos at 5:30 p.m.
