MaxPreps All Sac-Joaquin Section Football Team

Sac-Joaquin Offensive Player of the Year Kaiden Bennett was also a MaxPreps All-American.

The Sac-Joaquin Section is the second largest in the state of the 10 that are dotted across the valleys and streets. There are 190 schools in this section, and a lot of terrific football.

Here's our All-Section team with emphasis on media input, playoff success and statistics. Here's a look at the 2016 All Sac-Joaquin team.

MaxPreps All Sac-Joaquin Section Team
Player of the Year
WR — Joe Ngata, Folsom, Sr.
The Sacramento Bee Player of the Year caught 81 passes for 1,777 yards and 26 touchdown, returned one punt 99 yards for a score and was unguardable during a 16-0 season that included a CIF State Division I-AA championship.

Offensive Player of the Year
QB — Kaiden Bennett, Folsom, Jr.
The Sacramento Bee Offensive Player of the Year passed for 4,431 yards and 57 touchdowns and ran for 1,218 and 16 in helping power the Bulldogs to a 16-0 season.



Defensive Player of the Year
DB — Tanner Ward, Folsom, Sr.
The Sacramento Bee Defensive Player of the Year was deemed the "heart and soul" of the Bulldogs by his coaches, and he led the defensive charge with a team-leading 141 tackles, including a game-high nine tackles and two sacks in the CIF State title win over Helix to cap a 16-0 season.

Lineman of the Year
OL/DL — Will Craig, Granite Bay, Sr.
Deemed the best player in the section by his coach, Jeff Evans, the Cal-bound Craig and Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick dominated the trenches for a Grizzlies team that won the Division II section championship.

Junior Player of the Year
Isaiah Rutherford, Jesuit (Carmichael)
A first-team All-Metro pick by The Sacramento Bee, Rutherford rushed for 1,466 yards and 16 touchdowns and played stellar defense in the secondary for a Marauders team that went unbeaten in the Delta League and fell to Folsom in the section Division I semifinals.

Sophomore Player of the Year
Daniyel Ngata, Folsom
A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Ngata led the Bulldogs in rushing with 866 yards, and he was a good receiver and a superb downfield blocker for a team that went 16-0.

Coaches of the Year
Small Schools — Joey Montoya, Placer (Auburn)
An alum of the school, Montoya led the Hillmen to the section Division V championship, a NorCal win at Salinas and then nearly won a CIF State title, losing in the final seconds at Crenshaw. Good news for the Hillmen is they started only four seniors.

Medium Schools — Eric Reis, Manteca
In his final season as coach at his alma mater, Reis won his third section title, beating Valley Oak League rival Oakdale in the finals, and there was the added joy of coaching his son, standout lineman Kyle Reis.



Large Schools — Kris Richardson, Folsom
Richardson led Folsom to its second 16-0 season in three years and its third CIF State title this decade, this one in Division I-AA. The Bulldogs will return 16 starters.

First Team Offense
QB — Gino Campiotti, Manteca, Sr.
A record-setting, dual-threat star, Campiotti passed for 3,212 yards and 37 touchdowns and ran for 595 and 15 for the section Division III champions.

RB — Dauson Booker, Central Catholic (Modesto), Sr.
A Modesto Bee All-District pick, Booker rushed for 1,838 yards and 25 touchdowns for a team that went 10-2.

RB — Cameron Cherry, Oakdale, Sr.
A Modesto Bee All-District pick, Cherry set a bounty of school rushing records and led the Mustangs back to the section finals.

RB — Dusty Frampton, St. Mary's (Stockton), Sr.
A likely Stockton Record two-time first-team pick, Frampton set scores of school rushing records, and he went for 1,647 yards and 24 touchdowns this season.

WR — Isaah Crocker, Inderkum (Sacramento), Sr.
A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Crocker averaged 30.3 yards per reception and had 11 touchdowns and played strong defense for an 11-1 team.



WR — Andrew Hem, McNair (Stockton), Jr.
Fast with good hands, Hem caught 77 passes for 1,350 yards and 17 touchdowns for a playoff team.

WR — Hassani Zackery, Edison (Stockton), Sr.
One of the most explosive players in the region, Zackery caught 76 passes for 1,173 yards and 19 touchdowns for a playoff team.

TE — Brady Johnson, Franklin (Elk Grove), Sr.
A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Johnson led the Delta League with 625 yards of receiving with seven touchdowns while maintaining a 4.1 GPA for his coaching father, Mike.

TE — Spencer Webb, Christian Brothers (Sacramento), Sr.
A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Webb was unguardable, catching 61 passes for 1,063 yards and 23 touchdowns for a 10-3 team.

OL — Max Barth, St. Mary's (Stockton), Sr.
A rock in the trenches, Barth helped lead the way for the Rams, who returned to the section Division I finals.

OL — Bryan Catchings, Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills), Sr.
Headed to UNLV, The Sacramento Bee first-team selection was the lineman leader for one of the best teams in school history.



OL — Andrew Cokley, Vista del Lago (Folsom), Sr.
The Cal Poly commit and Sacramento Bee All-Metro selection flattened a lot of opponents for a playoff team.

OL — Kyle Reis, Manteca, Sr.
An anchor in the trenches for his coaching father and a Modest Bee All-District selection, Reis was a team captain who was paramount in his team winning the Division III section title.

OL — Nico Sarale, Oakdale, Sr.
A repeat pick here and a Modesto Bee All-District pick, the Fresno State-bound Sarale goes down as one of the greatest linemen in program history.

K — Donovan Haynes, Laguna Creek (Elk Grove), Sr.
A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Haynes made all 10 field goals he attempted and was also a good punter.

P — Colton Weidner, Mariposa County (Mariposa), Jr.
A Modesto Bee All-District pick, Weidner boomed 49 punts for 1,993 yards, an average of 40.7 yards, and 14 landed inside the 20-yard line.

Utility
Jasaun Allen, Chavez (Stockton), Sr. — A one-man wrecking crew, Allen rushed for 515 yards and 11 touchdowns, caught 47 passes for 960 yards and 12 scores and made plays on defense.



Bobby Avina, Gregori (Modesto), Sr. — The Modesto Bee Player of the Year passed for 3,015 yards and 36 touchdowns in leading his team to its first 10-0 regular season and first home playoff win.

Marco Baldacchino, Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills), Sr. — A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Baldacchino passed for 1,892 yards and 15 scores and ran for 782 and 12 for an 11-2 team.

Blayden Brown, Rocklin, Sr. — A two-way terror for the Thunder and a Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Brown punished teams as a fullback and linebacker for a playoff team.

Jaime Cousey, Sacramento, Sr. — The team's leading rusher with 829 yards and 11 touchdowns and a Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Cousey was just as effective on defense with 69 tackles and six sacks.

Josh Farr, Jesuit (Carmichael), Sr. — A Sacramento Bee All-Metro player, Farr passed for 471 yards and four touchdowns, rushed for 134, caught 297 yards of passes and played strong coverage defense for a 10-3 team.

Justin Poerio, Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills), Sr. — A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Poerio had 1,160 yards receiving, made stops on defense in the secondary and was the kicker and punter for an 11-2 team.



Evan Tattersall, Granite Bay, Sr. — A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, the Cal-bound Tattersall was equally effective as a hard-charging fullback and hard-to-block linebacker for a Grizzlies team that stormed to another section championship.
First team Defense
DL — Oyebolaji Akinyemi, Tracy, Sr.
A load in the trenches, Akinyemi had 80 tackles and 21 stops for losses for a team that reached the Division I semifinals.

DL — Cade Brownholtz, Jesuit (Carmichael), Jr.
A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Brownholtz had 53 tackles, four sacks and a lot of hurries for a 10-3 team.

DL — Tyler Hardeman, Folsom, Jr.
A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Hardeman had 100 tackles and five sacks and 15 stops for losses for a 16-0 team.

DL — Laiatu Latu, Jesuit (Carmichael), Jr.
A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Latu made plays as a rush end and tight end for the Delta League champions.

DL — Jack Powers, Granite Bay, Sr.
A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Powers set school sack records for a program that won its sixth section championship.

LB — Austin Baze, Bear River (Grass Valley), Sr.
A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Baze rushed for four scores in a Week 10 game to get his team into the playoffs, and was paramount in the Bruins winning the D-V section title.

LB — Jason Gallagher, Jesuit (Carmichael), Sr.
A Sacramento Bee All-Metro selection, Gallagher earned Delta League Defensive MVP honors while setting career tackling marks.

LB — Marshaun Hunter, Del Campo (Fair Oaks)
A tackling terror and a Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Hunter led his team in stops and blocked kicks and punts for an 11-1 team.



LB — Nate Otto, Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills)
A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Otto had 147 tackles as the defensive heart and soul of an 11-2 team.

LB — George Spithorst, Elk Grove, Sr.
A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Spithorst was dominant on defense and on the offensive line in the trenches for a playoff team.

DB — Richard Cornelius, Folsom, Sr.
A Sacrament Bee All-Metro pick, Cornelius had three interceptions and 55 tackles for the Division I section, NorCal and State champions.

DB — Bronson Harmon, Oakdale, Sr.
A Modesto Bee All-District pick, Harmon was a top defender for a team known to make stops, and on that reached another section final.

DB — Tre Jenkins, St. Mary's (Stockton), Sr.
A standout over two seasons, Jenkins had 90 tackles and played big on special teams and at receiver when needed for a team that played for another section title.

DB — Davion Ross, Inderkum (Sacramento), Sr.
A Sacramento Bee All-Metro pick, Ross set career school interception records and helped power the Tigers to an 11-1 season.
