Recap: Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates vs. Byers Bulldogs
The Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates were the 44-42 winner over the Byers Bulldogs when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Genoa-Hugo/Karval was outmatched by Byers on the road and fell 86-42. Genoa-Hugo/Karval was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 55-19.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Eddy Franey and Trey Smith. Franey scored nine points along with six rebounds, while Smith scored 13 points along with six rebounds. Franey continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
Byers' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Quincy Eacret, who scored 18 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was James Maes, who scored 14 points along with six steals.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 4-4. As for Byers, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Genoa-Hugo/Karval will take on Merino at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Merino is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games. As for Byers, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Dolores Huerta Prep at 2:00 p.m. Dolores Huerta Prep will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 310th, while Byers is ranked 93rd).
