Calico Rock hasn't had much luck against Cotter recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Calico Rock Pirates will challenge the Cotter Warriors at 4:00 p.m. Calico Rock will be strutting in after a victory while Cotter will be coming in after a defeat.
Calico Rock was handed a 15-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Concord, sneaking past 11-9. The high-scoring effort was just what Calico Rock needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Korbin Stapton was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Five bases. while going 3-for-5. Kyle French was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Cotter scored first but ultimately less than Yellville-Summit in their match on Friday. They lost 18-9 to the Panthers. The Warriors have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Will Morris was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season. He was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Brayden Adams made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Adams is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Wesley Perkey, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Calico Rock is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. Cotter now has a losing record of 1-2.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Calico Rock hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. However, it's not like Cotter struggles in that department as they've averaged .354. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Calico Rock might still be hurting after the 11-3 defeat they got from Cotter when the teams last played back in April of 2019. Can Calico Rock avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
