Basketball Recap: LKY Saints vs. Bluegrass United Bluehawks

If LKY was riding high fresh off their 65-14 takedown of Fern Creek on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The LKY Saints took a 59-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bluegrass United Bluehawks on Saturday. The Saints were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bluehawks earlier this season, when they won 73-53.

Several Saints players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Courtney Simmon, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. That's the most boards Simmon has posted since back in February of 2024. Allie McGuire had a dynamite game for Bluegrass United, going 7 for 11 en route to 23 points and six rebounds. McGuire has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Noe Gordon was another key player, putting up four points along with eight boards and seven steals.

LKY's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 11-6. As for Bluegrass United, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 7-15 record this season.

LKY didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 72-30 win against Fairdale on the 27th. As for Bluegrass United, they will square off against Collins at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
