Softball Game Preview: Lexington Minutemen vs. Mansfield Senior Tygers

The Lexington Minutemen will face off against the Mansfield Senior Tygers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lexington has eight straight wins, Mansfield Senior has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Lexington came out on top against Clear Fork on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Minutemen took their game against the Colts 6-2.

Makaree Chapman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Addy Williams, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Mansfield Senior fell victim to Madison Comprehensive and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 22-0 to the Rams.

Lexington's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Mansfield Senior, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.

Mansfield Senior's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Lexington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Mansfield Senior, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Lexington keep running through batters, or will the Tygers buck the trend?

Lexington took their victory against Mansfield Senior in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 15-3 score. Do the Minutemen have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tygers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
