Softball Recap: Cesar Chavez Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Cesar Chavez, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past the Maryvale Panthers 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Champions have posted since February 21, 2024.

Adrienne Morales spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Saree Ochoa, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Jeri White also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Cesar Chavez's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-11. As for Maryvale, they dropped their record down to 5-4 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cesar Chavez will host Tolleson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Tolleson's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Cesar Chavez's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Maryvale, they will welcome Camelback at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Maryvale is facing Camelback at the right time seeing as Camelback is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
