Baseball Game Preview: La Joya Community Lobos vs. Kellis Cougars

The La Joya Community Lobos will challenge the Kellis Cougars at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (La Joya Community has five straight wins, Kellis has eight straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

La Joya Community's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Independence 15-0. The result was nothing new for the Lobos, who have now won ten matchups by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Chris Mata was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, La Joya Community got a massive performance out of Aidan Escobedo, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Andrei Senreiso, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Kellis faced off against Willow Canyon on Wednesday. The Cougars came up short against the Wildcats, falling 10-1.

La Joya Community's victory bumped their record up to 15-4-1. As for Kellis, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12-1.
