Basketball Recap: Wildwood Wildcats vs. Mount Dora Christian Academy Bulldogs

Wildwood easily dispatched First Academy on Thursday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Wildwood Wildcats fell just short of the Mount Dora Christian Academy Bulldogs by a score of 60-57 on Friday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 67-65 back in November of 2024.

Despite the loss, Wildwood still got an impressive performance from Gio Wright, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Demetrius Knight, who posted ten points and seven rebounds.

Mount Dora Christian Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Landon Marenco out in front who went 9 of 19 en route to 24 points. That's the most points Marenco has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Haydon Tombros, who put up nine points and five steals.

Wildwood's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-6. As for Mount Dora Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.

Wildwood will face off against Cedar Key at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Mount Dora Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
