Volleyball Recap: Monterey Victorious

Monterey posted their closest victory since August 16th on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Richland Royals 2-1.

Monterey found their leader in freshman Elly Varghese, who had four digs and three aces. Those three aces set a new season-high mark for Varghese. Ashlynn Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assists of the season.

Monterey was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. They are a perfect 7-0 when they serve at least ten aces.

Monterey is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. As for Richland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-8.

Monterey has already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Bell on the 23rd. As for Richland, they will take on South Grand Prairie at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
