Baseball Recap: Valley View Gets the Win

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Valley View ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the La Feria Lions 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since March 19, 2025.

Carlos Espinoza was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 6.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Valley View is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-7-1 otherwise. Espinoza was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Julio Sierra was excellent, going 3-for-5 with one triple and one run. Another player making a difference was Jose Mirafuentes, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Valley View kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.7 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.2.

The win made it two in a row for Valley View and bumps their season record up to 5-8-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for La Feria, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.

Coming up, Valley View will challenge Rio Hondo at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for La Feria, they will take on Hidalgo Early College at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
