Baseball Recap: Charlotte Christian Takes a Loss

Charlotte Christian entered their contest against Oak Grove on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Charlotte Christian Knights fell just short of the Oak Grove Grizzlies by a score of 5-4. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Grizzlies apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Charlotte Christian got a good showing from Russ Berger, who tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits.

On the hitting side, Drew Darling made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Owen Farrell was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

This is the second loss in a row for Charlotte Christian and nudges their season record down to 8-2. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Oak Grove, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-4 record.

Charlotte Christian wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 10-0 loss against T.C. Roberson on the 15th. As for Oak Grove, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-0 win against Asheboro on the 18th.
