Baseball Recap: Zuni Comes Up Short

It was a Battle of the Birds when Zuni took on Navajo Prep on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 11-10. The defeat continues a trend for the Thunderbirds in their meetings with the Eagles: they've now lost three in a row.

Keenan Ondelacy and Kyran Shirley stepped up to the plate in a big way. Ondelacy went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Shirley went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Ondelacy has become a key player for Zuni: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 8-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Durwyn Laiteyse, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Zuni's loss dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Navajo Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-13 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Navajo Prep beat Zuni by a score of 11-8 later that day.
