Baseball Recap: Castro Valley Victorious

Castro Valley posted their closest win since February 26th on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Bishop O'Dowd Dragons 5-4. This was payback for the Trojans, who suffered a 3-2 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Scott Baldwin tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Owen Seidel, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Mares, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Castro Valley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. Bishop O'Dowd dropped their record down to 5-4 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Castro Valley will have a chance to go back-to-back against Bishop O'Dowd: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
