West Washington is 9-1 against Borden since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Senators will challenge the Braves at 7:00 p.m. West Washington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
West Washington is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They never let New Washington get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Senators considering their two-run performance the game before.
Macy Lowery was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 4-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Emma Schmidt, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
West Washington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Borden hadn't done well against Lanesville recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Braves walked away with an 8-3 win over the Eagles.
Emma Hart was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alayna Martin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Mallory Thomas was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
West Washington has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Borden, their win bumped their record up to 14-5.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Washington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. However, it's not like Borden struggles in that department as they've averaged .398. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Washington skirted past Borden 8-7 in their previous matchup on May 6th. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Senators since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
