Softball Recap: Valley Park Hawks vs. Jefferson Blue Jays        
        
		
             After flying high against Maplewood-Richmond Heights  on Tuesday, Valley Park came back down to earth. The Valley Park Hawks fell just short of the Jefferson Blue Jays by a score of  5-4 on Wednesday. The Hawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blue Jays apparently hadn't forgotten their  loss the last time these teams played  back in September of 2023.
  Adison Durbin was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she  struck out 16 batters over  6.2 innings while giving up just one earned  (and four unearned) runs off   four  hits. Durbin was also solid in the batter's box,  scoring a  run and  stealing a base while  getting on base  in three of her four plate appearances.
 In other batting news,  Jaecie Bowen made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and  scored a  run and  stole two bases while going 1-for-4. Another player making a difference was  Alivia Robison, who  scored a  run and  stole a base while going 2-for-4.
 Even though they lost, Valley Park  didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and  finished the game with 16  strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jefferson only tossed three.
 Valley Park's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Jefferson, the  victory was  the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.
 Both  squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley Park will host Windsor  at 4:15  p.m.  on Thursday. As for Jefferson, they will welcome Perryville  at 4:30  p.m.  on Thursday. Jefferson's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8  runs per game  this season, so Perryville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
