Basketball Preview: Winthrop Vikings vs. Danvers Falcons

The Winthrop Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Danvers Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Winthrop is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.

Last Friday, Winthrop was the victim of a tough 65-43 loss at the hands of the Chieftains. Winthrop has not had much luck with the Chieftains recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Meanwhile, Danvers pushed their score all the way to 59 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 70-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Swampscott. With that loss, Danvers now have a three game overall losing streak to go with their drought on the road.

Despite the defeat, Danvers saw an underclassman step up: Kyle Sillars scored 17 points. It was the first time this season that Sillars scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Logan Metivier, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.

Winthrop has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season. As for Danvers, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.

Winthrop won a match that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in January, slipping by the Falcons 68-67. The rematch might be a little tougher for Winthrop since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
