Jay County extended their winning streak to five on Saturday, bumping them up to 12-2. Everything went their way against the Elwood Panthers as they made off with a 16-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won 11 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Carley Trinidad made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hallie Schwieterman, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.1 runs per game. Another player making a difference was Ava Peterson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Jay County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .433 or higher in five consecutive games.
As for Elwood, their record now sits at 11-5. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Like Jay County, Elwood also got a great game from a two-way player: Player #4. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Player #4 was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Alaina Griego made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Aubree Noland was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI.
Jay County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 14-0 win against New Castle on the 11th. As for Elwood, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 20-1 victory against Randolph Southern on the 11th.
