Softball Recap: Upper Lake Cougars vs. St. Helena Saints
Upper Lake had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 3-5 to make it four. They lost 15-0 to the St. Helena Saints. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 7-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.
As for St. Helena, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.
For St. Helena's part, they got a massive performance out of Journey Penterman, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those two triples gave Penterman a new career-high. Jordan Hamilton also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Upper Lake will face off against Fort Bragg at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars are facing the Timberwolves at the right time seeing as the Timberwolves are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for St. Helena, they will take on Clear Lake at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
