Basketball Recap: South Lenoir Takes a Loss

South Lenoir played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the James Kenan Tigers and fell 47-9. The Blue Devils have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, South Lenoir still got an impressive performance from Gracie Tyndall, who posted two points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 boards gave Tyndall a new career-high.

James Kenan found their leader in sophomore Y'Anna Rivers, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 12 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Rivers has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Shamya Johnson also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steals of the season.

South Lenoir's defeat dropped their record down to 2-16. As for James Kenan, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-4.

South Lenoir and James Kenan could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. South Lenoir will square off against Southwest Onslow at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday down 300 places (569 vs. 269). Meanwhile, James Kenan (ranked 249th) will meet Kinston (ranked 84th) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
