Recap: Great Crossing vs. Bishop O'Connell Knights
After a string of 12 wins, Great Crossing's's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Bishop O'Connell by a score of 77-74. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Friday (63), Great Crossing still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why Great Crossing lost, one person who can't be blamed is Malachi Moreno. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 24 points and 25 rebounds. Moreno is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Godfrey, who scored 19 points.
Great Crossing's defeat dropped their record down to 12-1. As for Bishop O'Connell, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-2.
Great Crossing is on the road again on Thursday and play against Frankfort at 7:30 p.m. on January 4th. Frankfort will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kentucky Rankings (they are ranked 257th, while Great Crossing is ranked first). Bishop O'Connell and Gonzaga will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Gonzaga has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 858 points over their last 11 contests.
