Softball Recap: Bradford Tornadoes vs. Union County Fightin' Tigers

Bradford managed to slip by Union County the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Bradford Tornadoes came up short against the Union County Fightin' Tigers on Friday, falling 22-16. The Tornadoes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Fightin' Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Kallie Yowell and Addyson Hinds stepped up to the plate in a big way. Yowell fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances, while Hinds fired off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-5. Yowell continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Tayrn Flowers was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Bradford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. This was only their first loss (out of four games) when they post 11 or more hits.

Bradford now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Union County, they pushed their record up to 9-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.

Bradford will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Hawthorne at 7:00 p.m. on March 27th. Bradford has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Union County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Branford at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Union County knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Branford likes a good challenge.
