Softball Game Preview: Halstead Dragons vs. Hoisington Cardinals

The Halstead Dragons will head out on the road to square off against the Hoisington Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Halstead is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Halstead's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They put the hurt on Douglass with a sharp 14-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Hoisington let Hillsboro stack five runs on them in the fifth inning on Friday but luckily Hoisington prevailed anyway. The Cardinals won by a run and slipped past the Trojans 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cardinals have posted since May 7, 2024.

Halstead pushed their record up to 16-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Hoisington, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.

Halstead was able to grind out a solid victory over Hoisington when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 8-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
