Baseball Recap: Santa Rosa Comes Up Short

Santa Rosa had lost five straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 5-10 to make it six. They lost 10-4 to the Rancho Mirage Rattlers. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by exactly six runs.

Santa Rosa saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was JT Hubert, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Rancho Mirage, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-10. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

On Rancho Mirage's side, Gael Martinez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks. Martinez also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Rattlers are 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-9 otherwise.

At the plate, Jesus Gutierrez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Marcos Ceja Jr., who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Santa Rosa has already played their next game, a 7-4 defeat against Redwood on the 12th. As for Rancho Mirage, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 11-0 loss against Heritage on the 12th.
