Softball Recap: Brighton Cardinals vs. Westview Chargers

Brighton extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 14-9-2 in the process. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Westview Chargers. That's two games in a row now that the Cardinals have lost by exactly three runs.

Aliya Garcia was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

As for Westview, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games.

On Westview's side, Lakyn Rogers made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Rogers was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Sarah Byars was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Annelise Hayden also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Brighton and Westview should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Tennessee Rankings. The Cardinals will challenge Raleigh-Egypt at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (76 vs. 237). Meanwhile, Westview (ranked 68th) will meet Gibson County (ranked 201st) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
