Softball Recap: Cary-Grove Has No Trouble Against Leyden

There's no place like home for Cary-Grove, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Leyden Eagles on Saturday as they made off with an 11-4 win. That looming 11-4 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Trojans yet this season.

Paityn Ahlquist made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Ahlquist was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Aubrey Longergan was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Megan Koski, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Cary-Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Leyden only posted a batting average of .192.

Cary-Grove's victory bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Leyden, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-6.

Coming up, Cary-Grove will welcome Huntley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Red Raiders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Leyden, they will head out on the road to take on Lane Tech at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Champions have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
