Softball Preview: Del Norte Nighthawks vs. Carlsbad Lancers

The Del Norte Nighthawks will challenge the Carlsbad Lancers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Wednesday, it was close, but Del Norte sidestepped Mt. Carmel for a 7-5 victory. The win continues a trend for the Nighthawks in their matchups with the Sundevils: they've now won three in a row.

Alexis Kyles was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March. Khloe Florez also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Carlsbad). They never let Oceanside get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Wednesday. The Lancers not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 21, 2024.

Not much got past Emily Ritter, who gave up just four hits to keep Oceanside off the board.

On the hitting side, Kendall Rivera was a standout: she scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Autumn Muro was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Carlsbad always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Carlsbad's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Del Norte, their victory bumped their record up to 8-6-1.
