Baseball Game Preview: Pope John Paul II Jaguars vs. Pearl River Rebels

Pope John Paul II has won four straight games at home, while Pearl River has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Wednesday. The Jaguars will host the Rebels at 6:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Pope John Paul II 3, Pearl River 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Pope John Paul II is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Monday. Considering the Jaguars have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Blaze Rodriguez and Andrew Hoff did most of the damage at the plate: Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Hoff went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Rodriguez has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Trey Dieudonne, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

They weren't the only one making solid contact: Pope John Paul II kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy only managed two hits.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Pearl River sidestepped Archbishop Hannan for a 4-2 win. The Rebels haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Pope John Paul II has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Pearl River, their victory bumped their record up to 11-12-1.

Pope John Paul II skirted past Pearl River 8-6 in their previous meeting back in March of 2022. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Rebels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
