Baseball Recap: Canyon Finds Home Field Redemption Against Palm Desert

There's no place like home for Canyon, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They never let the Palm Desert Aztecs get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory on Saturday.

Not much got past Gilbert Vargas, who gave up just six hits to keep Palm Desert off the board.

On the hitting side, Chip Mertz was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Helsper, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base.

Canyon's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Palm Desert, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Canyon has already played their next matchup, a 5-1 victory against Redondo Union on the 25th. As for Palm Desert, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 6-1 win against Yorba Linda on the 25th.
