Baseball Recap: King's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

King dropped their record down to 9-5 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the University Prep Pumas by a score of 5-4. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pumas apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Brandon McCann was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for University Prep, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

On University Prep's side, Hawthorne Moody spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. Moody has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Owen Bradley was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. University Prep is 4-1 when Bradley posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jasper Schmidt, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

While King's had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
