Softball Game Preview: Hill Falcons vs. Gunderson Grizzlies

Hill is 1-8-1 against Gunderson since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. Hill will head out to challenge Gunderson at 4:00 p.m. Hill has given up an average of 20.2 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Hill lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Mt. Pleasant, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. Hill blew past Mt. Pleasant 26-16 on Friday. The Falcons' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Gunderson, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They walked away with a 10-7 win over James Lick on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Grizzlies in their matchups with the Comets: they've now won seven in a row.

Dezirae Regalado was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaelyn Vejar, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Talia Abuhamid was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Gunderson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Gunderson pushed their record up to 6-3 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.2 runs. As for Hill, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

Hill suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Gunderson when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Hill avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
