Baseball Recap: Knoxville Catholic Gets the Win

While Knoxville Catholic's win against Madison Southern wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Fighting Irish had just enough and edged out the Eagles 8-7. The Fighting Irish have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Eagles on Friday, too.

Knoxville Catholic got several good pitching performances, but Tyler Slatas was perhaps the best, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The Fighting Irish are 5-1-1 when Slatas allows one or fewer earned runs, but 7-8-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, DJ Lowery was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Knoxville Catholic's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 4-0-1 (and 8-9-1 when he doesn't). Edward Brabham was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Knoxville Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Madison Southern, they dropped their record down to 3-6 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Knoxville Catholic will welcome Bearden at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Madison Southern, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Karns at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
