Basketball Recap: Phelps Takes a Loss

Phelps entered their contest against Raceland on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Phelps Hornets were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 70-69 to the Raceland Rams. The Hornets lost against the Rams in their previous head to head back in January of 2019, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 64-26 score last time.

Phelps' loss came despite strong showings from Tyler Weddington and Jahmar Stewart. Weddington dropped a double-double on 25 points and 22 boards, while Stewart posted 24 points. The matchup was Weddington's 14th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Knox Wallace, who had six points.

Phelps' defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-6. As for Raceland, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-3.

Phelps will square off against Shelby Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Raceland, they will take on Chesapeake at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Chesapeake will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Raceland surely won't give up without a fight.
